NLIS provides the following for all grades, kindergarten through high school:
  • qualified, trained, and experienced teachers​​
  • education that meets the standards of the digital age with a computer for every child in every classroom from grades one through eight 
  • reading, writing, math, science, social studies, music, art, and Bible in English every day
  • Japanese teachers teach Japanese literacy class 4 days a week in grades 1 through 12; students learn grade-level kanji and read from the National Japanese textbooks
  • Japanese classes for non-Japanese speakers from grades 3 through 12; these students will study to pass the Japanese language tests, N5 through N2 

  • a low student-teacher ratio

  • global and forward-thinking, with opportunities to explore other cultures and share individual traditions in an international setting  

  • a safe, loving atmosphere that frees students to have the confidence to express themselves and grow

  • candidacy status with WASC for grades K through 9 

  • we are working toward full accreditation for all grades K through 12; thus, all students who attend now will graduate from an accredited school ​

English kindergarten for ages 4 and 5 by a licensed teacher provides:

  • training to read, write, and speak English at an early age.

  • training to solve math problems, study health and manners, other countries, the Bible, science, and create art projects, all in English.  

  • playtime at the park and in the gym 

  • 3rd and 4th-grade study buddies twice a month

  • a working monthly tuition discount, helping tuition to be only 15,500 yen a month

  • a bilingual Japanese teacher trained and licensed at a top American university, and she has a Hoikushi license from Japan

  • official registration with the city of Kofu

Elementary grades one through six provide:

  • trained, qualified, experienced teachers

  • high-level English education using hands-on activities, research, projects, and current teaching methods

  • language arts (reading, writing, spelling, grammar), Singapore math, science, social studies, health, art, music, Bible, music, and computer, all in English

  • handbells in grades 3 & 4

  • ukuleles in grades 5 & 6 

  • standardized testing 

  • leadership taught through activities with the Student Council for grades 5 & 6

Junior high grades 7-8 and high school grades 9-12 provide:
  • trained, qualified, experienced teachers

  • high-level textbooks and materials from English-speaking countries 

  • standardized testing in grades 7 & 8

  • students choose from various electives, including physical education, computer, art, photography, psychology, and others, as available

  • advanced placement classes and honor classes are available for high school students 

  • leadership taught through activities with the Student Council 

NLIS is a candidate for accreditation.
All grades from kindergarten through grade 9 are
approved by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Calendar for April

T-shirts are available!  If any are interested, please see your child's teacher or the secretaries.  Our students created the original designs and the student is selling these for ¥1800 each.  This is a fundraiser for the future high school building.  Each shirt earns 400 yen for the building.  Students can wear these every day in place of the normal uniform.  

New Life International School (NLIS) is sponsored by New Life International Church, a Protestant evangelical church located in the same building.  NLIS students do not need to attend any church or be Christians to be enrolled in our school.  Please read the site "Christian Education" to understand more fully how we teach.  For more information about New Life International Church, visit our website:
