Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a restful, nice holiday.
The teachers are busy preparing for a great finish to the 2022-23 school year. We have a workshop on Monday, January 9, to work on the accreditation requirements for WASC, prepare for the rest of the school year, and do some cleaning.
Here are dates to remember:
January 10 T 1st day, Assembly at 1:30
January 13 & 27 F Library
January 16-20 EasyCBM testing
January 18 W English Bible Study 2:15-3:00
January 19 Th Teacher’s Appreciation Day (Thank you!)
January 19 Th School board meeting
January 26 Th Teacher’s meeting (on surveys and science fair)
January 30 & 31 EFL testing
January 31 T Student and Parent Surveys
On Tuesday, January 10, NLIS will open its doors and have regular class hours. I am looking forward to hearing the sounds of the children talking and laughing again in the classes! I hope the children remember their winter homework. We will have the NLIS schoolwide assembly with all the classes at 1:30 on Tuesday. If your child is in the student council, please tell him or her to see me since they will have some responsibilities.
January 13 & 27 are the library days. The students should wear comfortable shoes and warm coats. Also, please make sure they come to school on time since some classes leave at 9:00.
January 16-20 is the last easyCBM standardized testing time. Please make sure that your child goes to bed on time and eats a good breakfast during this week.
On Wednesday, January 18, parents will meet for the English Bible study from 2:15 to 3:00. I love this time of studying and talking with each other. My only complaint is that the time goes too fast! Everyone is welcome, and it is free, of course.
On Thursday, January 19, parents and students will express their appreciation to the teachers. Please have your child write a sweet note to his or her teacher. It means a lot to all of us. I have notes that are 30 years old.
The school board will meet on Thursday, January 19, from 3:00 upstairs in the auditorium.
Teachers will meet on Thursday, January 26 at 3:35.
On Friday, January 27, all the students will be asked to fill out surveys for NLIS. The students will bring home a parent survey, too. We want to make this school a great place to learn, for students to feel safe and secure, and to make good friends and good memories at NLIS. Thank you, parents, for helping us with these goals.
On Monday and Tuesday, January 30th and 31st, all EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students will be tested. Please make sure that your child goes to bed on time and eats a good breakfast during this time, too.
Please encourage your child to do his or her best preparing for the science fair. The students’ projects are always amazing! The students should be working on their research now. Parents are invited to come and watch their child present. It will be on Friday, February 17.
February and March have many exciting events: Valentine’s parties, the science fair, the K-2 field trip, the Minute-to-Win-It Schoolwide end-of-year celebration, and graduation.
Warmly,
Suzy Brown
Principal of New Life International School
