Dear Parents,
It’s getting hot! As temperatures rise, please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school each day. Water, tea, and sports drinks are also available in our vending machine at student-friendly prices.
Summer Heat Policy
To help prevent heat-related illness, we follow these guidelines:
Up to 28°C: Regular outdoor activities (30–60 minutes)
28–31°C: Outdoor activities with water breaks every 15 minutes
32–34°C: Outdoor activities limited to 15 minutes with frequent water breaks and hats required
35°C and above: No outdoor activities; students will remain indoors
Uniform Reminder
Beginning June 1, students are expected to wear the approved school uniform each school day, except on designated free days.
For summer, all students may wear the school polo shirt or school T-shirt. Secondary students should also wear approved school pants or skirts.
If a student is repeatedly out of uniform, the school will follow the procedures outlined in the Parent Handbook. Exceptions may be made for emergencies, health concerns, or family hardship when parents contact the school.
Welcome Our Intern
Please join us in welcoming Lillian Blake, a volunteer from Cleveland, Tennessee, USA.
Lillian is studying TESOL, Linguistics, and Special Education and has teaching experience in both the United States and Moldova. She is assisting in classrooms, tutoring students, helping during recess, and supporting preparations for our new secondary campus. She will be with us through the end of July.
Looking Back at May
May was a busy and exciting month! Students enjoyed:
Open House
The all-school field trip to Craft Park in Minobu
The Grade 6 trip to Ueno Zoo
Spiritual Emphasis Week
Standardized testing
Thank you to all of our students, staff, and parents who helped make these activities successful.
June Highlights
Math Competition
Every Tuesday morning in June (8:35–8:50), students will have the opportunity to participate in our Math Competition. Students who meet their grade-level goals will receive a certificate and a small prize at the July assembly.
Open Campus – June 5
Prospective families are invited to visit our school, observe classes, and learn about admissions. If you know a family interested in English education, please encourage them to attend. They can come in the morning to observe classes and look at the curriculum. From 10:30 to 11:15, we will give a bilingual explanation of the school’s program and the admission’s process.
Personal Safety Classes
Additional information about our Personal Safety lessons will be sent separately this week.
Teacher Workday – June 15
Students do not have school on June 15. Teachers will be working on curriculum development and WASC accreditation projects.
Art Fair
Student artwork is due by June 26.
The Art Fair will be open June 29–July 3. This is a celebration of creativity rather than a competition, and families are encouraged to visit and leave encouraging notes for student artists.
Parent Volunteers Needed
We are grateful for parents who share their time and talents with our students. Whether you would like to read to a class, talk about your job or country, play an instrument, or share a hobby, we would love to have you visit.
We are also looking for volunteers to help paint the office at our new secondary campus in Shiobe later this summer. If you are interested, please let us know.
Thank you for your continued support of New Life International School!
Blessings,
Suzy BrownPrincipalNew Life International School
