Hello,
I hope you are having a great summer break. It’s hot, but the nights are still cool enough, so we enjoy walking at night. I hope you are finding ways to beat the heat!
Summer school was a great success. Four of our high school students assisted this year and were a great help. The children had a wonderful time, and several are interested in joining New Life International School. I interviewed a kindergartener who came from Tokyo, and her family will move to Yamanashi so she can attend 1st grade next year.
Starting from September 2nd, we will be commencing our parking duty. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the P.S.E. officers for their dedicated work in creating the schedule. We understand the effort it took, and we are truly grateful. If any parent needs to change their scheduled day, we kindly request you to directly coordinate with another parent. The schedule is posted on the front doors for your reference. Thank you for your commitment to keeping our children safe. Your time and effort are greatly appreciated.
I’m excited to announce that the school and church are getting new signs! The colors will be the same, but they will be updated to include the school’s name on the front and the other two signs will now have that we are an elementary, junior high, and high school. The cost is 410,000 yen for three signs. The church is generously paying for them. However, it would be very appreciated if anyone could donate money toward the signs.
The teachers will have several teacher meetings in September and October for the school to complete the Western Association of Colleges and Schools Self-Report and the school profile. We will ask high school students to watch the children after-school during our meetings. They will be happy to earn a little extra money, and they are mature, hard workers. Upon completion of the reports, we will submit them in October and expect a visit from three WASC coordinators in February. We are working very hard to achieve full accreditation for all grades, elementary through high school. We expect to get it. The reports take a lot of time and are demanding on our teachers, but we are becoming an even better school through the careful study that we are making. I am proud of the NLIS teachers, the students, and you, the parents, for your invaluable support and encouragement. Your involvement and dedication are what make NLIS a great school.
On Friday, September 13, NLIS is having our annual Camp Literacy Day. On this day, we do various hands-on learning activities with a camp theme. We will put "fireflies" (white lights) on the walls, set up tents in the gym, and classes will take turns coming into the darkened gym to read in the tents with flashlights and play learning games with prizes. Students will also sing camp songs and eat s'mores. S'mores are yummy cookies that when one eats one, they want "some more." We ask that every child bring one item for the cookies. Your child will soon get a letter with the information for the s'mores home. Thank you very much in advance.
Friday, September 20, the fire department will bring a fire truck and teach our elementary children fire safety, including allowing them to practice shooting a fire extinguisher.
Tuesday, September 24, is Parent Observation Day. Teachers will send class schedules home so you can decide when you would like to come and observe.
