Dear Parents,
It is with deep sorrow that I write to inform you of a loss within our NLIS community. On the evening of February 27, Aiko Veale passed away after her battle with cancer.
Our hearts are especially with her family. Noah (Grade 11) and Kaye (Grade 9) are deeply loved members of our school community. Many of our students and teachers know them well — Noah serves as our Student Council President — and this loss will be felt in a very personal way by our junior high and high school students in particular.
Aiko was not only a devoted mother and wife, but also a dear friend of mine and an instrumental part of the founding of New Life International School. I truly could not have started NLIS without her support and encouragement. Her husband, Steve, has faithfully served as our Friday Chapel speaker for many years, and our students affectionately call him “Chapel Guy.”
The Veales are a family of strong Christian faith. While we grieve deeply, we also hold onto the hope and comfort that Aiko is now at peace, free from pain, and in the presence of the Lord. Even with that assurance, the pain of separation is very real for those who loved her.
Please keep the Veale family in your prayers in the days and weeks ahead. As a school community, we will surround them with love and support.
If your child needs someone to talk to, or if you would like to speak with me personally, I am available.
With a heavy but hopeful heart,
Suzy BrownPrincipalNew Life International School
