Some News and Reminders

News:

1. Now, two karate classes are available after school on Monday and Thursday.  Thursday is full, so Mrs. Okuaki asked her sister if she would like to teach on Mondays.  Her sister’s name is Riiku Ogihara. She has an official 3rd dan, qualified by the Japan Karatedo Federation. She has trained in karate since she was three years old at her father's dojo, Yamanashi Seifukan. She has taught there for 15 years. She loves teaching energetic young children. Seifukan has the main dojo in Ichikawamisato-town, two other branches within Yamanashi, and many more abroad. Her father's name is Minoru Kanazawa, and he is currently the chairman of the Yamanashi Karatedo Federation and the Permanent Director of the Japan Karatedo Federation.

If your child is interested in taking non-contact karate lessons and taking the grade test twice a year at Seifukan, please fill in the application form at the front office.  The testing is not mandatory, but several students have passed tests relatively quickly. Karate uniforms are only necessary if the student takes a test.

The fee is 1,000 per lesson from 3:30 to 4:30 every Monday.

2. Please bring all cores from tape (cellophane, masking, etc.) to school. We are participating in an eco-friendly project to save trees. This company will sell the cores to companies that use the cellophane to make cardboard boxes and use the money to buy trees and plant them. God made a beautiful world for us, and we must take care of it. NLIS wants the students to serve the local and global community, and participating in recycling efforts is just one way we can!

3. Summer School will be from July 29 through August 2, M-F, 9:00 to 3:15 for children ages 5 to 12.  The students read, have Bible class with songs, play math games, create crafts, do science stem projects and experiments, do water games outside, minute to win it relays, watch movies with snacks, and more, all in English all day.  It’s fun and exhausting!  The fee is 30,000 yen, but NLIS students get a discount and only pay 25,000 yen for the first child and 20,000 yen for the second.  The space is limited, so please sign up if you are interested.
